Comparative Study- Offline vs Online education system
Introduction:
Since decades, researchers have argued upon the superiority of the two readily used modes of instructions, both of which have their own pros and cons. The recent and ongoing pandemic COVID-19 has taken the world economy with a blow. With drastic changes happening around the world in all the spheres, now economies are witnessing complete lockdowns. The educational systems worldwide have been affected, followed by widespread temporary closures of educational institutions. COVID-19 has at least acted as a catalyst for educational institutions to rethink about innovative ways to deliver and enhance learning for students. One such medium is the online meeting platforms, which are being used to conduct classes online between teachers and students. The already existing trend towards online learning has intensified in the current scenario. As stated in a number of previous researches, amidst a lot of positives, traditional classroom study mode suffered from a number of anomalies leading to distraction among students. Now, since the whole educational system has been shifted to a novel mode, it is a good time to compare the results arising out of both the study formats. The present study aims to capture the usually overlooked opinions of the students regarding the novel teaching methodology in terms of learning and retention, compare them with the outcomes of offline teaching methodology and suggest ways to improve the educational avenues. An investigation of the perceptual opinions of students regarding online instructions as compared to instructions in offline or traditional settings was performed through analyzing data collected through questionnaires comprising of both qualitative and quantitative questions. The results fetched favorable opinions of students regarding the offline or in-class sessions as compared to online ones.
In the age of technological advancement; there are many educational institutes who has initiated
Virtual Classrooms, Smart Classrooms pre Covid only. With the changing era of technology and
pandemic crises when we have to shift for everything from Offline to online. The change in the teaching
learning from traditional teaching of Chalk and Talk to Smart classes and then to totally online classes
has shown 360 degree changes, but with this 360 degree changes the revolution which needs to happen
in terms of training mind-set of students, teachers and society will definitely may be slow process.
Mask, Sanitizer, Social Distancing has taken daily needs roles and the most important is Mobile which
is proved as the tool for teaching, like blackboard, chalk, marker etc. the need of new teaching learning
era is the Mobile phones and Internet. But, yes we need to evaluate the learning outcomes.
As, the objective of education is learning not only teaching. In this study we have collected responses
of all students from different ages and tried to take out real Learning outcomes and difficulties of
students are also considered, based on which teachers can modify the teaching methodology.
Background:
The aim of this survey study is to investigate the difference between online and offline education, its
impact on the education, health, and lifestyle of students from different age-groups. After collecting all
the necessary data as feedback from students, we will be able to analyse the data.
And finally we would be to give some suggestions to the government or college authority to do the
education system student friendly. It has been more than two years since the Covid pandemic impacted
our lives. One important sector affected by it is the education sector. The academic world of millions of
enrolled learners and active teachers had to switch from offline mode to online mode.
Shifting from teaching in physical classrooms to online ones via electronic devices which were relatively
new to the teaching-learning community. The pandemic posed several challenges to schools and
colleges all around India to adjust to this new normal. Many researchers have tried to assess the
impact of online classes and the student’s effort to learn online using sample-size surveys.
Problem Statement:
With the pandemic, the world has seen a totally different kind of education system. Black board based learning almost became obsolete.
We plan to find the insights about the behavioral changes that occurred in the students as well as the
parents/guardians.The biggest question and challenge for the Indian Education System was to switch
from Traditional teaching learning pedagogy to Online Mode of Teaching. Technology has mostly
changed everything but sometimes drastic changes may not give good results.
Inference/Targets:
After analyzing the collected dataset we can comment on below topics during this pandemic:
Unequal Access to Educational Resources and Technology
Assessment and Evaluation
Mental and Physical Health
Continuity Education System during COVID-19
Education System Post-COVID-19
Rise or Fall of dropouts.
Were students of Govt. schools were given adequate resources to attend online classes.
How well-equipped schools were/are in adopting e-learning.
Relevance to CSS:
Analyse and study the thoughts of different categories of the general population of w.r.t online and offline mode.Comparative study of both the modes in different situations like which mode is suitable to which subgroups of population. This will also prepare the education system for further pandemics so that we can arrange better facilities for them in future. Although many studies comparing online with traditional learning environments have been conducted but no study has been conducted covering students from five different educational qualifications from Ludhiana city, so accordingly this study works to fulfill this gap. To study the perception of post-graduation students towards online and offline learning environments, To examine the impact of gender, educational qualification and family income towards online and offline learning platforms, To critically analyze the reasons for preferring online and offline learning platforms.
Methodology:
To compare Effectiveness of Online & Offline Learning Outcomes, we have conducted Survey via Google forms. Various parameters are evaluated and responses collected based on the queries raised.
A 13-set questionnaire was developed, which included a variety of multiple-choice questions, Likert scale and for a few questions, the respondents were allowed to enter free texts.
The survey was administered using the Google Forms platform, which requires subjects to be logged in to an email account to participate in the survey, it restricted multiple entries from an individual account.
The distribution of the questionnaire was conducted through the outreach of social media platforms via Facebook and Whatsapp, e-mail, and standard messaging services. Clear instructions with the google form were provided to ensure smooth filling up of form.
A web-based survey was conducted to students through the medium of Google online platforms from march 13 to till now, 2022. The online survey questionnaire contained three subgroups:
Participants were asked to describe their general demographics, such as age, the region of residence.
Information about the daily online learning routine following the transition from offline learning in educational institutions in India: average time spent for online study (hours) /day; medium for online study; average time spent for self-study (hours)/day.
Assessment of the experience of online learning to evaluate the levels of satisfaction among students.

he results are shared as: The reports available are from the responses collected from 79 students across India. The various ages who have participated in the survey are as follows:
Suggestions:
Online learning helps students to learn in addition to what they learn from the offline source. The teacher-student interaction plays an important role in determining the platform and accordingly it needs improvement in the learning environment. The topic offers a great scope for further studies where such comparative analysis can be made on a larger scale and covering actual performance evaluation and comparison over both the platforms.
Conclusion:
Some of the conclusions that were found are as follows:
- In Rural areas, the percentage of enrollments among students were high in online mode. So, rural areas prefer online mode over the offline mode.
- Time spent other than actual studying such as travel time, waiting time etc. in offline mode is a lot higher, especially in case of Urban areas. So, in terms of saving time Urban people prefer online mode over offline mode.
- From the students perspective, it was found that they feel more connected to the teachers in offline mode rather than online. So, students are offline mode in terms of communication with teachers.
After checking results from the survey conducted it can be observed that there are maximum students
who want offline classes to avoid various issues in terms of Understanding, Practical knowledge, demonstrations,
to have proper completion of assignments, to enhance health, to solve more doubts etc. Traditional teaching
has been replaced by virtual or online classes but there are no substitutes for teachers and classrooms.
Physical Classroom teaching is more useful for students to have overall development.
